The Different Treatment Options for Ricketts
Non-operative management can include calcitrile, phosphate replacement, vitamin D, and calcium. Alternative options include corrective surgery or a multilevel osteotomy which is indicated in the setting of severe tibial bowing. The dosing for calcitrile is 20 to 30 milligrams per kilogram per day split into 2 to 3 doses in children; 0.5 to 0.75 micrograms per day Split into 2 doses in adults. As far as outcomes, phosphate replacement is controversial and counterintuitive. Treatment of 1 to 3 grams daily was recommended but found no additional benefit.
