Socrates was asked by Thrasymachus what numbers make up twelve. He refused to answer, and tried irony or any other shuffle in order to avoid answering. 'How characteristic of Socrates,' he replied with a bitter laugh,. that's your ironical style' The natural thing is that the speaker should be someone like yourself, who professes to know and can tell what he knows.'
