John R. Brinkley vs the Federal Radio Commission
Brinkley ran for governor in 1932 and 1934, but was defeated again by future presidential candidate Alf Landon. He moved to Del Rio, Texas and built the radio station XERA, Zara just across the Mexican border out of the reach of US regulators. The signal was so strong it made bed Springs home and it could be picked up by car headlights.
