Inflation has been running out of control since the 1970s. It takes a severe recession to knock it all the way back below a three handle, which is ultimately what happened after the 81-82 recession. So now today, what's Powell to do? He says, we got some disinflation in goods and am I going to call that success? And we're good to go?
