The Problem With Counterfactual History
The problem with counterfactual history is, essentially, it didn't happen. If there had been massive rearmament along the same levels in Britain and France earlier, maybe more could have been done to support them. It's hard to see how that could have happened because as long as Hitler is saying, I don't want war, I just want the wrongs of Versailles to be righted,. As long as he's saying that, that's a seductive message to your populations - we're all democracies. And who is going to support, how are you going to sell to the people a massive,massive rearmament at a time when many people are actually also more
