Zanzibar: The Slave Trade and Its Importance
Zanzibar had become the world's largest producer of clothes, a crop originally associated with southeast asia. British empires opposed to that by the 18 forties or so. So they begin a process of constraining what's going on in zanzibar in terms of trade and then trying to keep british subjects out of the slave trade. By 18 90, the zanzibaris are a formal protectorate, as opposed to sort of a formally protectorate like they had been before 18 91.
