The Kingdom of Huichia - The Last King of Mercia
The first king we know of is a chap called Osric, who's remembered as the founder of Gloucester Cathedral. But each successive generation these kings become progressively lesser in authority relative to the mercians. So they start to be called subregulus, little under kings. Eventually they're demoted to ducks, the origin of the modern duke.
