Excision of the Medial Sesmoid of the Grey Toe

Halex valgus may be caused from tibial sesmoid excision, while halex varus may be cause by fibular ssmoid excision. This is caused by weakening of the flexor hallis brevis tendon, which should be meticulously repaired after s SME surgery. Remember that excision of both sSMEs should be avoided. Initial treatment almost always involves an accommodative orthosis but surgical intervention may be necessary in recalcitrant cases when conservative treatment has failed.
