Each week we take an idiom or other turn of phrase and try to tell the story from its entry into the English language to how it's used today. Opening that can of worms is the topic of today's show. Most online resources claim the 1950s as the origin of this one, but it was definitely alive and well in the 1940s and likely earlier. Here are two examples out of Montreal, Canada.
