How to Study the Magnetism of Extraterrestrial Rocks?
The earth's magnetic field is everywhere. So if we are trying to measure a really weak magnetic memory inside a rock, we don't want the earth's field there too. We can learn an awful lot about how the solar system actually formed by looking at the magnetism carried by these rocks. The reason that earth supports life was established four and a half billion years ago.
