Women in the Roman Political System
Women do not have an official formally recognized place in the Roman political system. For women to have power is quite unusual and certainly the kind of criticisms that Cleopatra the seventh receives for being a queen would have you believe that it's not very common. But if you look at the surrounding kingdoms there are actually quite a lot of powerful women in those kingdoms ruling alongside their husbands ruler alongside their sons but also ruling independently as well.
