What's the Point of Money in a Shilling?
In 1695 Parliament asked the great and the good to give advice as to what to do. Isaac Newton had a very intelligent idea, he says. He said money was a commodity that was used as an easy medium of exchange but was not itself intrinsically ending. That's the ancestor of the kind of thinking that produces today's financial markets.
