The Role of Looks in Beauty Culture
A lot of parents kind of accurately or pragmatically conclude, all right, I'm going to have to get my kid to look better. Being able to look a certain way leads to you having a sort of societal safety and financial safety even but also just like being able to walk down the street. So that's why Lee's story really stood out to me and it just felt very fucked up really that anyone would bully her for wanting to looks a certain way so that way she isn't harmed. It just struck me as in joy and Lee's experience says, both just it doesn't matter what we do. It's just it's never enough.
