What's the Difference Between a Brazilian and a European Multi-Party Democracy?
Brazilian democracy such as it is is pretty impermeable to popular interest being channeled upwards the whole structure of congress and the way the presidency works with relation to congress means that a lot of things that president might be elected on will never actually get done. It's an incredibly fragmented congress with 30 parties in there now that number has been reduced but even so we're talking about something like 18 parties in congress right so it's not like um even a european multi-party democracy if you're familiar with holland or something which is really fragmented the Netherlands and even so brazil is even more so.
