China and the Cantonese Customs System

The canton system, put in place during kanshi's time, slowly took shape. All trade gravity there to canton, or gwang cho, as it's known to day. And this place became the centre of all china trade along with makao. This canton system that came about was the most corrupt and venal system you could think of. Everyone was on the take, and the chinese officials just made fortune skimming off the top.
