The Evolution of the Action Office
Two designers from Herman Miller looked at how modern offices were set up. They decided that the setup of modern offices wasn't conducive to creativity. So they designed something called the Action Office, a series of desks and furniture. The idea was to give workers more freedom of expression in their work. But office bosses didn't like it - it was too expensive and took up too much space. And so came the Action Office 2, which is similar but packed workers closer together. It sold like hotcakes; this cubicle format became the dominant form of office design.
