The Pros and Cons of Charter Schools

The first all-boys charter school we started, one of the surprises was we got a large percentage of gay black men coming into that school to escape the bullying. So it was a refuge for them from the public school on the other side of the issue. They felt safe there. I would- it was an opportunity for them to escape a school not getting indoctrinated either way. And they were very appreciative of that.
