The Battle of Sandwich
King Harold stood down his naval forces from the Isle of Wight before Williams fleet arrived because he presumably thought that they weren't coming. So there wouldn't have been a land force waiting and the sea force went back to their main port of Sandwich. But I think it's Audrey guitarless says that when he heard that William was coming, he sensed 70 ships out but we don't hear anything that happened to them. We don't know if they could do anything. That naval battles that we would probably imagine sort of the horn blower type, they didn't really tend to happen in the 11th century.
