Using a Cardioid Microphone for Vocal Recordings
The upper chest, throat and nasal areas are also influential in projecting different tonal characteristics. If you're using a cardioid microphone which for most vocal recordings is the preferable polar pattern then the closer the vocalist is to the microphone you get less impact from the ambiance of the recording space. But all the same closer placements can also result in the recording being compromised by plosive consonant breath blasts.
