Is There a Contemporary Feeling of Ethelred Not Being Successful?
Ethelred's reign is 38 years long, one of the longest in english history. He was faced with both internal and external pressures that really led to it. His regime collapses under the weight of its own expectations. But i don't think that's any explicit fault of his. If anything, he took advice too often and too readily. It would be impossible to be failing for 38 years on end and still be kang.
