How Do You Manage Shadowed MongoDB Replica Sets?
SoftLayer now runs its own shadowed MongoDB replica sets with sharding. The old architecture was running on bare metal servers at SoftLayer. There were a couple of challenges and we reached these, I think about a year ago to the beginning of last year - our current system was no longer scaling. We also wanted to build a lot more features because we'd completely custom designed the databasescheme for it.
