The Maya and the Olmec
Main urban centres formed close to three places where agriculture was invented. We see an urban society first forming around two thousand b c. And it begins with groups called the olmec and the pte, who gradually form a series of fairly large cities. They were superseded by a new civilization called the maya. For a long time, historians and archaeologists imagine them as being a sort of idyllic, peaceful civilization. But ah, that's not actually true. There were wars.
