In 18 60, mexico was in the grip of a civil war between liberals and conservatives. The liberal emperor maximilian held out for 70 days before being betrayed by one of his closest officers. He would have seen this final sandt as honorable, and it is. But he himself surrenders to the amtrresters and is taken prisoner. Aneis executed alongside to generals who stood with him at the end.
