The example of Che Guevara in Guatemala, I think is really instructive because he decided you can't do democratic socialism without having a tightly organized defensive state. In Chile, during the government of Salvador Ande, you had the socialist party, which was a Hyundai's actual party. You had the Chilean Communist Party, which in many ways was more moderate than the socialist. They didn't participate in the 1970 election even though they said they did not believe in gun control.
