How to Count Cards in Vegas
The trick is counting cards with 55 other things going on. If you can predict the likelihood of a certain card coming out of the deck, you can make a statistically small change in how you bet to your advantage. This is what the MIT team figured out. The problem with traditional card counting is that if I sat down at the beginning of a six deck shoe, I would have to play a ton of hands hoping that the count came in my favor. But I'm going to burn a lot of money in that process because I don't have any advantage in the beginning.
