The UN-Led Negotiations - The Geneva Accords
In 1980, the UN received a mandate from its member states to lead negotiations for a Soviet withdrawal. It's not until April 1988 that the Geneva Accords are assigned through which the Soviets agreed to withdraw their troops. This however does not effectively lead to an end of the war in any way, shape or form. The United States and the Soviets continue to keep funding and arming their respective sides within this conflict.
