Zanzibar: A Shortest War in East Africa
Zanzibar was a small island off the coast of what's now tanzinea, close enough that on a clear day you can see the mainland. In the nineteenth century it became the seat of a omani arab empire in east africa which controlled most of the coast from about mogadisu down to kilwa in southern tanzinea. It grows very rapidly in the nineteenth century based on its position in the slave trade and ivory trade and so forth. But there's a great deal of influence that kind of wanes the further you get from the coast.
