Children just grow up with increasingly rich and complex and idiosyncratic ideas about gender that they find their way to it right gender is how we talk about what it means to feel sexy. We discover so much beauty and joy and desire in the possibility of gender, i would argue. A free society is one that creates the material conditions where everyone can do that.
