When hermione enters the carriage, she does not come in with those expectations. Her expectation is really coming from herself of, you know, i'm very smart. And that's an equalizing force. The other moment, which was interesting was scabbers. When draker walks in with crab and goyle, they kind of budge into the train car. Scabbers jumps up to defend ron and harry in just of a moment o kind of real confrontation. But what is interesting that i hadn't thought of until you said that, is that it's a complete metaphor for ran.
