Many of the disasters that are incomprehensible in the US happened before global warming. Bangladesh had a couple of cyclones in the late 1800s, which killed over 200,000 people. The communist regimes of the past 100 years are probably the most guilty of this. And usually these massive catastrophes have a lot to do with government failures as well.
