Aaron's Question on Phase Issues

Aaron asks a question that many home studio engineers are afraid to ask. Clemt, aron goes on to say he has found it personally beneficial to slightly off phase the audio for beefing up the mix. Is this issue primarily for the analogue realm microphone placement, or perhaps digital in the box?
