Excavating Chests in One Piece
In March 1979 a salvage vessel called Sleipner was mord on site. This meant that divers and fine staff could work in shifts helping to accelerate progress. A lot of things we did had just never ever been done before but that was also the fun of working as an underwater archaeologist in the 1970s and 1980s. One of my favourite techniques that I developed was raising chests in one piece. They generally contain one of everything so there's one pair of shoes one dagger one hat and so on. So we're pretty sure they belong to one person - it means you get a real insight into a single individual on board.
