The Role of Fermentation in Modern Japan

In Japan, you have scientific institutions that look pretty similar to what you have in Europe and North America. And so it looked like you have this structure of modern science that is seemingly universal. But at the same time, I was interested in the fact that when you look a little bit closer at how these institutions work, they seem to function a bit differently. So for example, this discipline of microbiology, this concept of a microbe, there seemed to be a different emphasis on what that meant in Japan.
