The Interrogation of Barker
In this chapter, a conversation takes place between two individuals, one of whom is a detective. The detective questions the other individual, referred to as Barker, about his relationship with a man named Douglas and his wife. Barker becomes defensive when asked about his friendship with Mrs. Douglas and refuses to answer certain questions. However, he eventually opens up and describes Douglas as a jealous man but emphasizes that he had a loving and faithful wife. Inspector MacDonald raises the issue of the missing wedding ring and its possible connection to the tragedy. Sherlock Holmes then questions Barker about the lighting in the room at the time of the incident, which seems peculiar.
