A ship of African captives represents one of the first slave ships to come to Louisiana. "There's a lot of data about the legal and illegal transatlantic slave trade that involved New York in a very large way," he says. Most of the businessmen in the 18th century had a stake in the actual slave trade in some form or fashion.
