Alma's Discussion of Justice and Mercy

In alma forty two, verse 11, if it were not for the plan of redemption, justice and mercy seem to be separate, vying forces. But they are only theoretically in this hypothetical situation where there is no christ and there is no atonement. In verse 15, a perfect just god and a merciful god. And i think that's where alma is trying to take gorient and us as readers into his reasoning. He urges corietta to see justice, mercy, grace, long suffering, not in isolation, but in combination.
