The Volcker Coup - Is 1979 More of a Quantitative Leap Than a Qualitative One?
The Volcker shock is sometimes called the Volcker coup by critics, but you say that's not quite right. In some ways it was less of a departure than it seems, says Julian Zelizer. The idea that the US ever enjoyed decades of full employment is just false, he adds. But with that said, obviously I still see 1979 as a turning point and I think you can't absolutely throw that out.
