Women are particularly likely to be cases of witchcraft for a couple of reasons. One is that witchcraft gives you a power that you don't have in other circumstances. By being weak minded, empty vessels, women were seen as more susceptible to the wiles of the devil. So could witch hunting be seen as a means of subduing and oppressing women?
