We should remember that the bor war took place, it was the kind of culmination of the jingoism in britain tha really came to delight in the afghan war of the 18 seventies. So there was a tremendous amount of patriotism and enthusiasm for the war - but also arrogance and complacency. When the boor war failed to finish in a matter of weeks, this was given enormous covrage in the press.
