Cheryl: Richard Michael Cauley arrived in America at the end of March 1923. She says he was 20 years old and came amid a rising anti-immigrant, anti-Catholic sentiment. Cheryl: He settled in Chicago where he worked as a streetcar driver and then a bus driver for 40 years. In short, she says, he becomes a very typical Irish-American immigrant. The vice president's name would not exist if it were not for this one tiny little fact, writes Cheryl.
