Ems are both capable of being immortal and they would age and become forced to retire. Ems will typically have a whole sequence of versions of themselves around younger and older. They would literally have other George lawyers hanging around, some of whom were trained a few years earlier and therefore farther into their work cycle. And that's how their world differs from ours. It also something similar happens inside ordinary minds. When we're young, we have what's called fluid intelligence. We can learn many new things and we're flexible. As we get older, we acquire what's called crystallized intelligence. We are able to do many more things and know more things, but we find it harder to change
