Beowulf is the son of Echtheo, and he was just the best. King Hrothgar had seen so many warriors come to prove their prowess over the years that most ended up in pieces around the meat hall. Now this one would grapple with Grendel, the monster they had hardly seen yet who had claimed more lives than Hrothgar could remember. Not only would he do it alone, but he would do it unarmed. Beowulf walked into the hall and faced first into a spiderweb.
