Queer History - Is There a New Generation of Black British History?
There is a lot of work, I think, going on at the moment by a sort of new generation of black British historians who were particularly interested in kind of queer black life. We have some examples from the past and a particular favourite of mine is a woman called Pearl O'Cock, who ran a bar in Brixton in the 1970s. She showed that there was actually a scene - it might have been small, but a gay black scene of ordinary Londoners coming together to dance and have fun and meet people.
