I loved adventure stories when I was growing up. The idea that somebody who is slightly outside of what society requires you to be has got an edge, if you like. It's always a daft thing to say the book wrote itself because of course it doesn't. But at the same time, I really did feel like I had the wind in my sails,. We've all tried to stop making seafaring puns. And for your own inspirations coming from pirates, pirates from amazing women of the past.
