The Progress Narrative of Sex Is Always Rearranging Itself
The state regulation of sex and race has somehow become inseparable. Margaret Sanger did not have a feminist project that was as big as Anthony Comstock. She agreed with him that the function of sexuality was the reproduction of the race. That is just a very 19th century idea. And so it's entirely coincident with the history of gender as a property form in the United States.
