Why Would Joab Want Absalom to Stay in Gesher?
Joab probably recognized that here is asalom who poses a threat to david. It's likely that joab orchestrated this thing with the woman of takoa to get David to bring absalom closer to home, so that he could be not as much of a threat. But we also see something important. Absalom shows no sign of repentance. And so after the third time he calls to joab, he sets his his fieldn you wre't oing to talk o me. So i've set your field on fire.
