The Different Types of Extensor Tendon Injuries
Treatment for extensor tendon injuries can be non-operative or operative. Tendon repair is indicated when there is a laceration of greater than 50% of the tendon width in all zones. Fixation of bony of ocean is indicated for a bony mallet finger with a P3-volar subluxation. A central slip reconstruction can involve a tendon graft, extensor turn-down, lateral band mobilization, transverse retinacular ligament, and FDS slip. An EIP to EPL transfer is indicated in the setting of chronic EPL rupture.
