The self-fulfilling prophecy was invented by Robert King Merton. It says that if Charlie were to say something about the state of the economy tonight by God by tomorrow morning it might actually happen, he said. He added: "If I said something about the economy in fact exactly the same thing is Charlie everybody would say ho hum what does he know"
