Henry James's Eccentric Upbringing

Henry James had a very eccentric and unusual upbringing. His father was part of the leisure class, didn't have to work for a living. He'd taken his three children on a tour of Europe which became a kind of never-ending tour. People sometimes think of Henry James as a New England writer, but he was raised in New York.
