i was involved in physics administration for a while, and there was a constant pressure to justify to the public this sort of thing. One finds oneself trotting out all sorts of arguments. And yet i think they are a trivialization of the merits of those activities. So we, we, we need to do research, not unnecessarily knowing what the end product will be. But with the hope that there will be a some positive outcome of it.
